Winter in Paradise - 4th Ward Christmas Party

Kayelene's Fruit Fish

On Saturday, Dec 8, from 11 AM to 1 PM, the Stonewood 4th Ward will be holding its annual Christmas celebration at the meetinghouse. Feel free to come in your Hawaiian best and enjoy a catered lunch plucked from the islands themselves!

December Relief Society "Activities"

Thursday, Dec. 6th is My Sister's Kitchen at Jan Hornberger's at 7 pm. We'll learn an easy way to make kettle corn. Bring a plate of goodies to exchange with someone else. This will be the official ward Christmas treat trade where each sister makes treats for one other family instead of for every family in the ward. Hopefully, this will make your holiday season a little easier, a little less calorie laden and we can still wish everyone a Merry Christmas. See you all Thursday night!!
Monday, Dec. 10th is our Out to Lunch Bunch. We will be going to the Chef's Table. LaDawn has made some reservations and we can add more, so if you'd like to join us and you don't get a chance to sign up, just let LaDawn or Jan Hornberger know! We'll meet at Pam's at 11 am.
Tuesday, Dec. 11th is our book exchange for Book Club. Bring your favorite Christmas book to exchange. (Preferably a children's picture book.) If you don't have time to get one or you forget, we will have a few extra books there for the trade. PLEASE come and have a great lunch and visit and learn about a lot of fun books.

If you have any questions, just let me know! - Jan Hornberger

Christmas Advent Calendar

Count down to Christmas with this Advent Calendar of the Nativity. This Christmas Advent Calendar is available in color or black and white. Go to this site and download the PDF file, print, and cutout the pictures! (Can be made on cardstock, laminated or for use on flannel boards.) Then each day, starting with December 1st, put up one piece.

Baby Jesus is set to come on Christmas Eve, but if you'd like him to come on Christmas morning you can split the stable pieces into two days.

2007 October Leadership Meeting: Becoming an Instrument in God's Hands

Pear - Plum Tartlets
Great recipe. Came from the Betty Crocker Fall Baking 2007 cookbook, page 47. Really simple and so fast. I’ve made them with plums and peach preserves before and also used apricot instead of peach with the pears. - Jan Hornberger

1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed as directed on package
1 ripe pear
1/4 cup peach preserves

Heat oven to 400 F. Cut pastry into 4 squares. Place pastry squares on ungreased cookie sheet. (I used parchment paper as it makes them easy to remove to cool.)

Peel pear, remove seeds. Slice into very thin slices. Arrange slices over pastry squares, leaving 1/2 in. border.

Bake about 20 minutes until pastry is puffed and browned. Spread 1 TBL preserves over top of each warm tartlet. Cool 10 minutes before eating.

Kitchen tip: Thaw the frozen puff pastry on the counter about 15 minutes. The pastry should be chilled but still pliable when you’re ready to work with it. If the pastry gets too warm, the butter layers will flatten and the pastry won’t puff as high when it bakes.

This is the perfect dessert to make when you’re short on time.
